DNA GROUPS
What is a DNA Group?
A DNA Group is a group of 3-6 men or women who gather weekly for the purpose of transformation and discipleship through the study and discussion of God’s Word. They seek to be known by one another and to bring the gospel to bear on each other’s lives so that they each grow to become more like Jesus.
What does DNA Stand For?
D—Discover
The group seeks to discover gospel gaps in their lives—areas where they are not believing the truth about Jesus and who they are in Christ. This manifests itself in wrong beliefs, wrong emotions, wrong affections, and wrong actions. They do this by reading the Bible and asking intentional questions as they consider the weekly passage of Scripture together.
N—Nurture
Group members nurture each other’s affections and emotions, speaking the truth in love to the heart. We do not use guilt, shame, or fear, but the power of God’s Word and the truths of the gospel to nurture each other in love to their true identity in Jesus Christ.
A—Act
Group members make commitments to act on the discovery of truth they have learned from their discussion of the Biblical passage, and agree to take tangible steps toward leading their affections increasingly toward Jesus. When the group meets again, they will hold each other accountable to continue actively fighting their sin in the power of the Holy Spirit.
How long does DNA group last?
Each group will look different, and there is no prescribed time frame for how long each meeting will last. However, most groups meet on average between 1-1.5 hours each week.
Who can be part of a DNA group?
Anyone! You do not need to be a member of Redeemer to join a DNA group. We highly encourage everyone to join a DNA group because we believe they are so important and helpful for each person's growth as a disciple of Jesus.
What can I expect from DNA Group?
You can expect to grow in your knowledge of God's word as you study it with others, as well as your ability to see how all of Scripture points to Jesus.
You can expect to grow closer to Jesus. Through studying the word of God together in the power of the Holy Spirit we trust that God will cause the truth of the gospel to transform each person to love Jesus and live for Him more. This is what God delights to do for His children!
You can expect to grow closer to the people in your group. As each person is open, honest, and vulnerable each week to share what God is teaching them through His word, their sin struggles, the trials they are facing, and anything else the Spirit prompts them to share, each group will grow closer in relationships and community that is rooted in the gospel of Jesus Christ.
DNA Groups are a great opportunity for you to grow in deep relationships with other believers as you all allow the word of God and the Holy Spirit to transform your lives to make you more like Jesus in everything!
